Industries & markets
Together with our customers, we develop customised precision strip solutions for extremely demanding segments and a variety of applications for the following industries: Automotive industry, environmental technology, telecommunications & electronics, medical technology, durable consumer goods, mechanical & plant engineering and the construction & tool industry.
Automotive
Technological developments such as electromobility, autonomous driving and connectivity are strongly changing the automotive industry. BWS supports and accompanies this development with high-performance and innovative materials that will find their way into the most diverse systems within the automobile, both in the classic areas of application and in the technology shift to electrified drives. Fuel cells and hydrogen will also be trendstting for the mobility of the future, for which BWS is already producing cold-rolled strip.
In addition, BWS strip steel is used in brake systems, e.g. as a feedstock for sliding plates and ABS sleeves, and in engines, e.g. as a component of fuel injection systems, timing chains, shielding plates and in plate heat exchangers. In exhaust systems, BWS products can be found in the exhaust pipe lines and also in the manufacture of catalytic converter foils. Particularly safety-relevant components such as the sleeves for airbags and headrest springs are also made from BWS strip.
There are numerous markets of applications in the automotive industry, wherever it is necessary to fasten, move or even secure something: pipe and hose clamps, retaining clips, spring washers, flat springs, contact springs, disc springs, connectors and diaphragms.
Environmental technology
BWS supplies strips for a more climate and environmentally friendly future, e.g. for the production of fuel cells and electrolysers. BWS material is also used in the production of renewable energy equipment, such as solar panels. BWS high-temperature or high-performance materials are used both in the construction of catalytic converters for engines and filters for industrial equipment.
Technical springs and connectors made of BWS strip are indispensable in environmental technology, as they can withstand the most demanding environments and temperature ranges.
Telecommunications & Electrical
The increasing complexity in the development and production of electronic devices, which contain a multitude of tiny components, requires precision parts with the highest dimensional accuracy and dimensional stability. This places the greatest demands on the strip manufactured at BWS, which is used as the starting material, for example, for the production of flat springs, fastening and installation terminals, connectors, sleeves, fiber optic jackets for a wide variety of applications in the telecommunication and electrical industry. Frames and covers for switches and sockets, socket springs and lamp bases are also made from BWS strip.
Medical technology
The demand for special steels and titanium alloys for medical technology is growing steadily. BWS strip meets the special requirements placed on material properties and reliability with the highest quality.
Instruments such as insulin injection devices, syringe needles, blood lancets, syringe springs and bone saws are manufactured from BWS strip steel. BWS supplies feedstock for the production of electrodes and flat springs, which are used for example in inhalers. BWS cold-rolled strip is also found in respirators and spectacle frames.
The use of titanium alloys in medical technology, a material characterized above all by biocompatibility and corrosion resistance, has become increasingly important in recent years. BWS titanium strip is used, for example, in dental and orthodontic applications, but also for the production of ball bearing cages for pacemakers and in the fabrication of prostheses.
Durable consumer goods
BWS strip is characterized by high-quality, scratch-resistant surfaces that ensure a consistent appearance and functionality even under heavy use. Exemplary applications include furniture profiles, castors and wheels as well as hinge springs, display springs and oven rails. Writing springs and pen sleeves are also made from our strip, as are high-quality kitchen articles such as cutlery and baking pans. For the latter, BWS materials meet the strict requirements of the food industry.
Machinery & Plant Engineering
Due to its high thermal and mechanical resistance and corrosion resistance, stainless steel plays a decisive role in mechanical and plant engineering. For example, BWS strip is used to manufacture ball bearing cages, expansion joints, plate heat exchangers and distillation columns.
Basically, BWS strip steel is used in mechanical and plant engineering wherever precision parts must meet the highest requirements in terms of load-bearing capacity, safety and durability, including in the production of seals, filter rings, flexible hoses machine runners, cable guides and cable sheathing. Other areas of application include technical springs, such as flat springs and disc springs, connecting elements, such as hose and pipe clamps, and fine and finned tubes.
Construction & tool industry
Stainless steel combines the demand for aesthetics in architecture with the requirements for corrosion resistance, durability and low maintenance and cleaning requirements in both interior and exterior building applications. Typical interior applications include tile rails, cover plates for water flushes, drain strainers, hardware, window corner deflectors and spacers for insulating glass. In the exterior, BWS strip is used among other things for the production of facade elements and roof tile fasteners.
In the field of security technology, BWS strip is used, for example, for lock cuffs for locking systems, security shoes and general burglary protection.
No construction site can be imagined without trowels, spatulas, smoothing trowels, carpenter’s angles, wallpaper rails, tools and industrial blades, which are also made from BWS strip.
