Substitution materials

S 204

If the customer has only limited requirements for the corrosion resistance of the feedstock, the material S 204 can be substituted for the standard material AISI 301. S 204 is an austenitic chromium-manganese stainless steel with a very low nickel content which exhibits acceptable corrosion behaviour in interior applications and in non-aggressive atmospheres. The material has limited cold formability and weldability.

In the annealed but also in the work-hardened condition, S 204 offers applications in the industry of simple structural parts, e.g. in the production of tools (trowels, spatulas), retaining springs/clamps, rivets, profiles and safety shoes.

S 445

Material S 445 is a ferritic material with a high chromium content which is offered as an alternative to the material AISI 304. Due to the high chromium content, it is relatively corrosion resistant. The resistance to pitting corrosion is somewhat higher than that of material AISI 304.

Due to hard temper rolling, material S 445 can be used in a similar way to material AISI 304, except for critical cold forming operations. Material S 445 can be welded by known processes.

The main areas of possible application are tubes, profiles/rails, cladding, stamped and bent parts, trim strips, building hardware, gratings, household goods.
