Apprenticeship

Right from the start, our apprentices learn to take on and solve tasks on their own responsibility. In order to continue to be successful in the market, we need the competence, diversity and commitment of people who have and use their own heads.

We carry out our industrial training in cooperation with the “Mittel-Lenne” training company in Iserlohn and the “DEW Career Workshop” in Hagen. This means that our apprentices have access to modern training workshops with first-class machinery for their training. They then acquire company-specific knowledge while working in our production facilities.

Commercial and technical apprentices are deployed in various departments of the company as part of their training and play an active role in our day-to-day business.

Apprenticeship as an Industrial Clerk (m/f/d)

Industrial clerks deal with commercial and business management tasks. At BWS, apprentices pass through the departments of sales, purchasing, human resources, operation planning and accounting/controlling in order to provide them with a broad range of specialist knowledge and to ensure that they become familiar with internal work processes. This also ensures that our apprentices gain an insight into the wide range of subsequent job opportunities during their apprenticeship.

Duration of training: 3 years

The prerequisite for this apprenticeship is either an A-Grade or successful completion of an upper commercial college. In addition, basic PC skills are essential, as the computer is one of the most important working tools during and after the apprenticeship. A good knowledge of the English language is also important to us.

Apprenticeship as a Process Technologist in Steel and Forming Technology (m/f/d)

During the basic vocational training, apprentices for process technologist (m/f/d) in the discipline of steel forming learn cutting, joining, welding and brazing, deal with reading, applying, creating technical documents and quality control. During the advanced training, the schedule includes fusion welding, thermal cutting, pneumatics/hydraulics and electrical engineering.

In order to understand our technologies and manufacturing processes and to master the functionality of our modern equipment, apprentices learn how to operate our cold rolling mills, annealing, slitting and shearing lines in the various operating departments during their in-house training at BWS.

Duration of training: 3½ years

The prerequisite for taking up this profession is a completed secondary technical school certificate (secondary school 10B). We expect an interest in technology and natural science as well as craftsmanship.

Apprenticeship as a Machine and Plant Operator (m/f/d)

During their training, machine and plant operators (m/f/d) acquire important knowledge to be able to operate our machines independently. This also includes looking after the machines and carrying out basic maintenance work. Machine and plant operators learn how to optimally prepare work processes. They also monitor and control the flow of materials. The application and implementation of quality assurance measures also fall within their area of responsibility.

Duration of training: 2 years

Prerequisite is a good secondary school leaving certificate, preferably also a year of preparation in metal trades and a basic interest in technical processes. Craftsmanship, flexibility and enjoyment of working independently are also of great importance.

Apprenticeship as an Industrial Mechanic (m/f/d)

As part of their training, industrial mechanics (m/f/d) monitor and optimize production processes and ensure that machines, systems and tools are ready for operation. This includes repairing, maintaining and servicing hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical machines and setting up equipment. Industrial mechanics also manufacture, set up or modify equipment parts and assemblies for production machines.

In order to understand our technologies and manufacturing processes and to master the functionality of our modern equipment, apprentices learn how to operate our cold rolling mills, annealing, slitting and shearing lines in the various operating departments during their on-the-job training at BWS.

Training duration: 3½ years

Requirements for this profession are a successful secondary school diploma with at least good grades in physics and mathematics as well as basic knowledge of information technology. Spatial imagination, manual dexterity, flexibility and enjoyment of working independently are also of great importance.

Apprenticeship as a Material Tester (m/f/d)

Material testers in metal technology (m/f/d) examine metallic materials for their properties or existing damages. They take samples, carry out measurements and tests and document the results.

Our apprentices learn what requirements we place on our materials. In the incoming goods and quality control departments, they gain insights into the practice of metallographic examinations to ensure our quality standards.

Duration of training: 3½ years

The prerequisite for taking up this profession is a successful secondary school leaving certificate with at least good grades in the subjects physics, chemistry and mathematics. We also require technical understanding and interest in scientific issues.

Apprenticeship as an Electronics Technician for Industrial Engineering (m/f/d)

As part of their training, electronics technicians for industrial engineering (m/f/d) assemble systems and installations for power supply technology, measurement, control and regulation technology, communication technology, signaling technology, drive technology, and lighting technology. They commission and maintain these systems. Other tasks include operating these systems. Typical areas of application are power distribution systems and networks, building installations and networks, operational systems, production and process engineering systems, switchgear and control systems, and electrical equipment.

Vocational school instruction takes place part-time, one to two days per week.

Duration of Training: 3½ years

Requirements for this profession include a successful secondary school diploma (Realschulabschluss) with at least good grades in physics and mathematics, as well as basic knowledge of computer science. Spatial awareness, manual dexterity, flexibility, and enjoyment of working independently are also of great importance.

Apprenticeship as a Management Assistant for Digitization Management (m/f/d)

As part of your training as a management assistent for Digitization Management, you will work with computers, IT and cloud systems, and industry-specific application programs. You analyze data as well as existing work, business and value-added processes and develop them digitally. In addition, you analyze the respective IT systems, identify errors, correct them as well as document them. The work of digitalization management assistants requires business thinking and negotiating skills. Communication skills and a strong customer and service orientation are required when providing support and advising customers on the possible utilizations of IT systems, e.g., by taking measures to improve IT security and data protection. Digitalization management assistants are informed about the latest technical developments in computer technology.

Duration of Training: 3 years

Prerequisite to take up this apprenticeship is either the advanced technical college certificate/A-Level or a successful secondary school certificate with at least good grades in math, German and English. In addition, basic PC skills and an interest in hardware & software are essential, as the computer is one of the most important work tools during and after the apprenticeship. Diligence, independent working methods and customer and service orientation are just as important for this profession as technical and commercial understanding.
